Biography

2014-15 (R-JUNIOR): Finished third at 133 pounds at the Pac-12 Championships...qualified for NCAA Tournament for first time and went 1-2...selected first team Academic All-Conference for third consecutive season...wrapped up season with a 24-11 record and four pins.

2013-14 (R-SOPHOMORE): Placed second at 141 pounds at the Pac-12 Championships...earned first team Academic All-Conference honors...selected to the NWCA Individual All-Academic team...concluded season with a 21-12 overall record, 9-3 in duals...finished fourth at the Reno Tournament of Champions at 141 pounds...went 18-9 at 141 after moving up from 133 at the Nov. 30 Stanford duals.

2012-13 (R-FRESHMAN): Finished season with a 25-9 record...earned first team Academic All-Conference honors...selected to the NWCA Individual All-Academic team...opened the season with a 9-1 record after winning the San Francisco State Open and placing second at the Roadrunner Open...was fifth at the Reno Tournament of Champions and sixth at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational...broke thumb against Rutgers’ Vincent Dellfave Jan. 3 and won the match...wrestled with broken thumb in Jan. 6 tri-dual at Cal Poly and won both matches...returned at Stanford dual for a victory...won first match at Pac-12 Championships by tech fall but was forced to medically default to sixth at the tournament due to the injury to thumb.

2011-12 (REDSHIRT): Sat out the season as a redshirt at Bakersfield...wrestled in three open tournaments, taking second at the Roadrunner Open and third at the Utah Valley Open...went 0-2 at 60 KG at the FILA Junior Nationals.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2011 graduate of Bakersfield High School...coach was former Bakersfield wrestler Andy Varner...finished seventh at the CIF State Tournament at 112 pounds as a senior after placing seventh at the state meet at 103 pounds as a junior...a two-time NHSCA All-American...team won 2010 state championship...an Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete.

PERSONAL: Born Feb. 4, 1993...son of Ronald and Kimberly Nickell....a petroleum engineering major.
