Box Score MOSCOW, Idaho--Idaho defeated Bakersfield 3-1 in Western Athletic Conference volleyball play Saturday night.
The Roadrunners won the opening set 25-22 before Idaho bounced back with a 25-14 set two victory. The Vandals took set three by a 25-17 count. Idaho won the final set 25-17.
Idaho held the advantage at the net, as the Vandals posted 18 blocks, compared to seven for Bakersfield.Idaho out hit the Roadrunners .294 to .169.
Mariah Alvidrez (R-Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) recorded 23 digs for the Roadrunners. Debora Araujo (Sr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) led the 'Runner offense with 15 kills. Molly O'Hagan (Jr., Tonganoxie, Kan., Tonganoxie HS) had 12 kills.
"We came out with a good game plan and good pressure, but we didn't sustain it," said Bakersfield head coach Jolene Shepardson. "Idaho made some adjustments and served well. We must continue to improve in all areas so that we can compete more consistently."
The road trip concludes Monday when the Roadrunners travel to New Mexico State for a 7 p.m. (MDT) start.
