BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield wrestling team defeated Stanford 24-13 Sunday afternoon on Senior Day in the Icardo Center.
The Roadrunners trailed 3-0 after the heavyweight opener before CSUB's lone senior starter, Tyler Iwamura (San Diego, Caiif., Santa Fe Christian HS) tied the dual with a 6-3 victory over Evan Silver at 125 pounds. Ian Nickell (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) returned to the lineup from a broken thumb and was awarded a default victory at 133 pounds.
Timmy Box (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) earned a 13-3 major decision over Josh Lauderdale at 141 pounds to make 13-3. Timmy Boone defeated Dalton Kelley (R-Jr., Alamosa, Colo., Alamosa HS) in sudden death overtime, 4-2 in the 149-pound bout.
Adam Fierrro (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) picked up a 8-1 decision against Kyle Meyer at 157. Stanford won by major decision at 165, but Bryce Hammond (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) halted the Cardinal momentum with a technical fall (16-0) in the 174-pound match against Tommy Kimbrell.
Sean Pollock (R-So., Oceanside, Calif., Rancho Buena Vista HS) clinched CSUB's first dual victory over Stanford in four years with a 5-2 victory over Ryan Davies at 184 pounds. Stanford won the 197-pound bout for the final 24-13. CSUB allowed back points in only one of the nine matches contested.
The Roadrunners conclude the regular season against No. 13 Central Michigan next Saturday at Cal Poly beginning at 3 p.m.
