Nickell Wins 2 As CSUB Goes 1-1 At Mustang Duals

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.--No. 14 Ian Nickell (R-Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) won both of his 133-pound matches as CSU Bakersfield went 1-1 at the Mustang Duals Sunday.

The Roadrunners opened the day with a 20-12 loss to No. 16 Wyoming. Nickell defeated Zach Zehner 9-5 for the first CSUB victory of the dual. The Roadrunners led 9-6 after wins by Dalton Kelley (R-Jr., 149, Alamosa, Colo., Alamosa HS) and Adam Fierro (So., 157, Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), but Wyoming won the next four including a tech fall at 197 that clinched the victory for the Cowboys. Sammy Cervantes (R-Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Palomar College) would earn the duke at heavyweight, 8-2, against Leland Pfeifer.

CSUB defeated Columbia 22-12 in the nightcap. In addition to Nickell's victory, also winning for the Roadrunners were Miguel Comparan (R-Sr., 125, Buena Park, Calif., Buena Park HS), Timmy Box (R-Fr., 141, Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS), Kelley (149), Fierro (157), Reuben Franklin (So., 184, Murrieta, Calif., Vista Murrieta HS, and Cervantes (285).

The Roadrunners return to San Luis Obispo next Saturday for a Pac-12 dual against Cal Poly beginning at 7:30 p.m.
