IRVINE, Calif.--Kevin Younger (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) went 4-for-5 with two RBI's, but UC Irvine (30-22) defeated CSU Bakersfield (21-29) 15-6 Sunday afternoon at Anteaters Ballpark to take the rubber game of the three game series.
DC Legg's (R-Sr., Murrieta, Calif., Cypress College) two-RBI single in the top of the first highlighted a three-run CSUB first inning. After held without a hit over the first three innings by Roadrunner starter Jeff McKenzie (Jr., El Dorado Hills, Calif., San Joaquin Delta College), the Anteaters tied the score in the fourth with a three-run spurt of their own.
With one out in the fifth, Taylor Sparks tripled off of D.J. Crumlich's sacrifice fly drove in Sparks for a UCI lead. Tommy Reyes' RBI double later in the inning made it 5-3. UCI added a run in the sixth.
Oscar Sanay (So., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) and Younger drove in runs in the seventh to make it 6-5. UCI responded in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two unearned runs to increase the lead once again. The Anteaters exploded for seven runs in the eighth. A Younger RBI double made it the final 15-6.
The Roadrunners scored five of their six runs with two outs. Legg and Dylan Christensen (Jr., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College) both had two hits for the Roadrunners. Jeff Stephens was 4-for-5 with three RBI's to pace UC Irvine.
CSUB concludes the regular season with a five-game homestand beginning Tuesday night against Cal State Northridge. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
