BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- CSU Bakersfield head men's
basketball coach Rod Barnes has added another component to his 2012-13 squad
with the addition of San Bernardino Valley College forward Tevin Harris, who
signed a National Letter of Intent with the Roadrunners on Thursday.
Harris, the 6'8" 220-pound forward
averaged 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game during his sophomore season with
SBVC while shooting 52 percent from the field and blocking 74 shots. He was
also named to the All-Conference team in the Foothill Conference as SBVC won
their third straight regular season title.
"Tevin is a guy that we feel can
make an immediate impact on our front line," Barnes said. "He's a long,
athletic forward who's a very good rebounder and shot blocker and his
versatility gives us an opportunity to play with a bigger lineup next season."
Harris, a Dallas, Tex., native
helped SBVC to their fourth straight playoff appearance with a 25-6 record for
a Wolverine squad who advanced to the finals of the Southern California
Regional playoffs last season.
"Tevin has been well-coached by
coach Brewer at San Bernardino Valley, a program that has established itself as
one of the best in the region while consistently competing at a high level in
the always tough Foothill Conference," Barnes said.
Tevin Harris is the second
student-athlete to sign a letter of intent this week following Corey Hall of
Ventura College. Harris and Hall, along with Sacramento High's Erik Kinney who
signed in the Fall signing period, will join a Roadrunner squad that finished a
program-best 16-15 last season at the Division I level and returns 8 players
from that team along with redshirts Javonte Maynor, Brandon Barnes and Kregg
Jones.
