DAVIS, Calif. - Pitchers Marissa Hiller (Cypress, Calif., Cypress HS) and Taylor DeSilva (Sunnyvale, Calif., Univ. of the Pacific) combined to throw a no-hitter and shortstop Myshayla Fryer (San Diego, Calif., University HS) hit a home run to help the CSU Bakersfield softball team record a 2-1 non-conference victory over UC Davis on Sunday in Davis.
Hiller started the game and pitched the first two and last two innings of the game, while DeSilva added three solid innings of middle relief to help the 'Runners (7-19) shut down the Aggies (10-21). Hiller threw four strikeouts credited with the win and improved to 2-5 on the season.
After Davis jumped out to a 1-0 lead, Fryer tied it up in the second inning with a solo home run to left field. In the top of the third inning, CSUB started a two-out rally that began with walks to Laura King (R-Jr., Camarillo, Calif., UNLV) and Ashley Nahale (Sr., Fremont, Calif., Ohlone College). Sara Smith (Sr., Northridge, Calif., Biola Univ.) then reached on an infield single to load the bases before Fryer then drew a walk to drive in what ended up being the winning run.
King, Smith and Karissa Viega (So., Hemet, Calif., Hemet HS) each added hits for CSUB.
The 'Runners will now prepare for a busy eight-game week that will begin with a doubleheader against the University of the Pacific on Tuesday starting at noon at Roadrunner Softball Complex. CSUB will then travel to play UC Riverside for a doubleheader starting at noon before returning to Bakersfield to host San Diego for a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
