State (7-10) defeated
CSUB (18-5) 10-8 Mar. 26 at Hardt Field.
Ohio
State opened the scoring
in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Tim Wetzel singled home Brian Delucia.
Ryan Cypret's single plated Wetzel for a 2-0 Buckeyes' lead. Tyler Shryock's
(Fr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) infield single in the bottom of
the fifth scored Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield,
Calif., Bakersfield College) to
get one back for the Roadrunners.
Cypret's three-run home run in the seventh made it 5-1. All
three runs were unearned after the Roadrunners committed two errors in the
frame. CSUB loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Buckeyes'
closer Josh Dezse entered the game to face Jeremy Rodriguez (Jr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.,
Crespi HS).
Rodriguez responded with a double that cleared the bases and
brought Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura,
Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) to
the plate. Dezse got Medina
to pop to second for the second out. Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Calif.,
Bonita Vista HS) singled up the middle to score Rodriguez and tie the game.
Ohio
State took advantage of three
CSUB errors to push across five runs in the top of the eighth. The Roadrunners
loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth. Medina charted a sacrifice fly to score
Shyrock for CSUB's sixth run. Sanay flew out to center for out No. 2. Cael Brockmeyer (Fr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS)
made it 10-8 with a double that drove in two runs. Dezse struck out pinch
hitter Mick Gaston (Jr., Quartz Hill,
Calif., Quartz Hill HS) to end
the game.
The Roadrunners committed seven errors during the game which
led to eight Buckeyes' unearned runs. Sanay led the 'Runners after going
2-for-5.
CSUB is next in action Apr. 1-3 at Santa Clara.
