BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- Jonathan Montoya (Jr., Chino
Hills, Calif., Chino Hills HS)
posted his third complete game of the year as CSUB (18-5) defeated Ohio State
(6-10) 7-3 Mar. 25 at Hardt Field
The 5-7 lefty retired the first 13 Ohio State
batters he faced before allowing a one-out walk in the top of the fourth.
Montoya did not give up a hit until David Corna singled to left to open up the
top of the sixth. Montoya would end up allowing just four hits. He struck out
nine and walked two, tossing 135 pitches.
Montoya was bolstered by a Roadrunner offense that pounded
out 10 hits and exploded four a four-run outburst in the bottom of the third. Ohio State
got on the board with a run in the top of the sixth. It was the first earned run given up by the
CSUB pitching staff in 32 innings, dating back to the second game of the
Lafayette series (Mar. 17).
Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura,
Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) went
2-for-3 with an RBI. Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula
Vista, Calif., Bonita
Vista HS) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. For the second straight game, DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) drove in two runs.
The Roadrunners and the Buckeyes conclude their three-game series
Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
