CSUB Baseball Shutouts Valpo 9-0

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.--CSUB (6-2) shutout Valparaiso (1-7) 9-0 in college baseball action Mar. 1 at Hardt Field.

'Runner pitchers Brandon Van Dam (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Quartz Hill HS), Korie Walkley (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS), Nick Shannon (R-Sr., Mesa, Ariz., Chandler-Gilbert CC), and Spenser Messmore (Jr., Granada Hills, Calif., Alemany HS) combined on a four-hitter. The shutout is the third in the 2+ year history of the CSUB program.

The Roadrunners exploded for five runs in the first inning. CSUB added two in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth. DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) and Stuart Smith (R-So., Ventura, Calif., Buena HS) each drove in two runs to pace the 'Runners.

Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases (tying the school record held by three others). Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) walked three times to tie the school record (held by two others) on his way to scoring three runs. CSUB picked up a total of 10 walks in the game.

The Roadrunners and Crusaders play again on Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m.
