CSUB Men?s Swimming Team Wins Both Relays To Take Lead After Day 1 Of MPSF Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif.-The CSUB Men's Swimming team won both relays on day one of the MPSF Championships Feb. 23 at the Belmont Olympic Pool. The Roadrunners have taken a 12-point lead (64-52) over second place Seattle University.

The 200 medley relay of Luka Leskur (Sr., Split, Croatia, Technical School Split), Chad McKenzie (Sr., Durban, South Africa, Limestone College), Matt Parsonage (Sr., Durban, South Africa, Limestone College) and Chris Pipes (Jr., Fresno, Calif., Merced College) broke the school record in the event with a time of 1:29.33. The old mark of 1:29.74 was set during the 2010 season. The 1:29.33 time also makes the NCAA "B" cut.

The 800 freestyle relay consisted of Priest, Peter Bardessono (Jr., Elverta, Calif., American River College), McKenzie and Mark Silvius (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) recorded a time of 6:39.42 to win the event. The time also made the NCAA "B" cut.

"I am super pumped with Peter Bardessono's leadoff on the back of the 200 medley," said CSUB Head Coach Chris Hansen. "He will be a contender to win the 100 back. Chris Pipes' 50 free split was a huge reason we were able to win the race. Mark Silvisus really stepped up during the 800 freestyle relay. I'm really happy with everyone today. We need to have great morning (session) to pull ahead even more."

Thursday's preliminaries will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the finals set to get started at 6 p.m.
