LAS VEGAS, Nev.—Tyler Iwamura (R-Jr., San Diego, Calif., Santa Fe Christian HS) finished eighth at 125 pounds at the Cliff Keen Invitational Dec. 3 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Iwamura opened Saturday's competition with a technical fall victory (16-0, 5:00) over Army's Scott Filbert. In the consolation quarterfinals in a battle of two nationally ranked wrestlers, Iwamura lost 7-6 to Wyoming's Michael Martinez to end his tournament stay. Martinez is No. 12 at 125 while Iwamura entered the meet at No. 20.
Iwamura lost in overtime to Pittsburgh's Anthony Zanetta 3-1 in the seventh place match. As a team, CSUB tied for 26th (20) with Wisconsin. Ohio State (129) took home the team championship.
Iwamura was awarded the sixth seed at 125 pounds and opened the meet with a 6-2 victory over Oregon State's Pat Rollins. Iwamura defeated Michigan's Grant Pizzo, 7-2 in round two. Iwamura met Johnni DiJulius of Ohio State in the quarterfinals. DiJulius defeated Iwamura 15-6. Iwamura's first loss of the season sends him into Saturday's consolation bracket.

Jose Mendoza (R-So., Selma, Calif., Selma HS) began his day at 133 with a technical fall over Shane McGough of Arizona State (15-0, 5:00). Mendoza lost via technical fall to the No. 3 seed, Edinboro's Aaron Schopp in round two. In his first wrestleback, Mendoza earned a 7-5 decision over Steve Mitcheff of Kent State to advance. Mendoza's day came to an end with a 4-0 loss to the No. 11 seed, THomas Kelliher of Wisconsin in the wrestlebacks' round of 16.
Dalton Kelley (R-So., Alamosa, Colo., Alamosa HS) lost to Nathan Hoffer of Arizona State 12-3 in the first round of the 141-pound bracket. Kelley won his first wrestleback match when he pinned Menlo's Christian Franks at the 2:02 mark of the first period. Kelley was eliminated from the tournament in round two of the consolation bracket by Edinboro's Mitch Port (7-5).
Calvin Miller (R-Sr., Sacramento, Calif., Natomas HS) fell 6-3 to Wyoming's Brandon Richardson in the first round of the 149-pound bracket. Miller won his first consolation bracket match when he defeated North Dakota State's Mark Erickson 8-7. Miller went out of the meet in the second round of the consolation bracket as Nebraska's Brandon Wilbourn defeated Miller 11-3.
Anthony Box (R-Sr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield HS) defeated San Francisco State's Vincente Aboytes 13-1 in the opening round of the 157-pound bracket. Box was defeated by North Dakota State's Stevn Monk by technical fall in the round of 16. Monk was seeded fourth in the tournament. Box's tournament ended in the third round of the consolation bracket when he lost to Wyoming's Dakota Friesth 13-4.
Adam Fierro (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakesfield HS) drew Wyoming's Shane Onufer, the No. 1 seed in the first round of the 165-pound bracket. Fierro was pinned by Onufer, who is ranked No. 3 in Division I, at the 3:32 mark of the match. Fierro won his first match in the consolation bracket as he defeated Army's Coleman Gracey 12-7. Fierro lost 8-3 to Nebraska-Kearney's Joey Wilson in the wrestleback's round of 24 to end his tournament run.
Brady Garner (R-Sr., Preston, Idaho, Portland State) lost 15-5 to Nebraska's Tyler Kohen in round one of the 174-pound bracket. Garner fell out of the tournament when he lost 9-5 to Boise State's Scotty Bacon in the first round of wrestlebacks.
Reuben Franklin (Fr., Murrieta, Calif., Vista Murrieta HS) lost to the No. 4 seed, Jacob Swartz of Boise State 17-5 in his first 184-pound match. Swartz is ranked 12th at 184 in Division I. Franklin was eliminated form the tournament by Harvard's Cameron Croy in the first round of the consolation bracket. Croy earned a technical fall victory over Frankling 17-2.
Oren Dramen (Jr., San Diego, Calif., Palomar JC) advanced to the second round of the 197-pound bracket when he was awarded a forfeit victory over Northern Colorado's Mark Morrill. Dramen fell 14-3 to Oregon State's Mark Morrill. Morrill is the No. 4 seed in the tournament and is ranked No. 12 in Division I at 197 pounds. Dramen's tournament ended in the consolation round of 24 when he lost 9-0 to Kent State's Keith Witt.
Steven Wood (Fr., Lemoore, Calif., Lemoore HS) was pinned by the 11th seed, Atticus Disney of Cal Poly, at 2:54 of the opening round match at heavyweight. Wood went out of the tournament in the first round of wrestlebacks when he lost 13-3 to Jared Erickson of Air Force.
Saturday's action gets underway at 9 a.m. with the finals set for 3 p.m.
