SEATTLE -- Leanne Tucker and Tyler Shirk both picked up all-tournament
awards at the Redhawk Invitational in Seattle.
Shirk led the Roadrunner offense with five shots, including
her third goal of the season in a tournament-opening 2-1 win over Sacramento
State. Tucker not only anchored the Roadrunner backline by playing all 180
minutes over two matches, she buried a penalty kick for the winner in the 82nd
minute versus the Hornets.
"Both Leanne and Tyler had very good weekends," says CSUB
Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke. Tyler has stepped up as a freshman and has provided
us with three important goals this season. She seems to be in the right place
at the right time and is creating opportunities for herself."
Van Dyke has equally high praise for Tucker.
"Leanne not only notched a penalty this weekend, but has
been doing an exceptional job at the back. Her will to win each and every game
has given us a lift over this long period of travel."
That long period of travel ends Sunday when the Roadrunners
return to the Main Soccer Field for the first time in 28 days to host West
Coast Conference contender Pepperdine Sunday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m
