FORT WORTH, Texas — No. 6 TCU jumped out to a 7-0 lead through two innings and the Horned Frogs' Kyle Winkler stymied the Roadrunners at the plate as the CSUB baseball team fell, 12-0, Friday at Luptom Stadium.

A sacrifice fly, wild pitch and RBI-double led to a 3-0 lead for TCU (42-11) in the bottom of the first. CSUB starting pitcher Brandon Van Dam opened the game by giving up back-to-back walks to Brance Rivera and Bryan Holaday, before a double steal moved the runners to second and third. Jason Coats lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Rivera to score and three batters later, Holaday scored on a wild pitch from Van Dam Taylor Featherstone then knocked an RBI-double down the right field line  for the third run of the inning.

The Horned Frogs continued to pile on the runs in the second, using five hits, including a three-run home run by Matt Curry, to go ahead 7-0.

After giving up six hits and three walks for seven earned runs, Van Dam (0-3) was replaced by Jonathan Montoya after just two innings. The sophomore southpaw was effective for nearly five innings, not allowing a TCU run to score in the third through sixth innings. Montoya ran into trouble in the seventh, giving up one run on a wild pitch and one more on an RBI-double. TCU added a third run on an RBI-walk from reliever Erik Draxton, to lead 10-0 through seven complete.

TCU added two more runs in the eighth for the final 12-run spread.

Winkler (9-1) tossed seven shutout innings for the Horned Frogs, recording seven strikeouts and scattering four hits. Trent Appleby struck out one and allowed just two hits in the final two innings to complete the shutout for TCU.

Kevin Younger and Kyle Richardson had two hits each for the Roadrunners. Joey Mills and Jason Kudlock added one each.

The Roadrunners and Horned Frogs conclude play Saturday at 1 p.m. CST.
