'RUNNER REPORT
The Roadrunners got off to a roaring start to the 2010 season, sweeping a four-game homestand against Air Force. CSUB took the first game 8-4 and never looked back, earning 9-4, 13-3 and 12-4 wins in the final three games.
Collectively, the Roadrunners hit .385, pounding out 60 hits, including 19 extra-base hits, for 42 runs. On the flip side, Air Force hit just .256 with 34 hits for 15 runs.

FOUR AND OH
Despite having little history with which to compare themselves, the 2010 Roadrunners are off to an impressive 4-0 start. It is the longest win streak the program has achieved and is also the first series sweep. In 2009, the Roadrunners went 2-1 on opening weekend, but it took 11 games for them to reach four wins, and 14 more before they found win No. 5.

BOREN BATTING .600
Brandon Boren opened his senior season with a bang, pounding out 12 hits in 20 at bats over the four-game series against Air Force. The second baseman tallied a trio of doubles, had seven RBIs and scored eight runs, while also striking out just once.

FIVE-HIT OUTING
As part of his 12-for-20 performance on opening weekend, Brandon Boren tied his own program precord with five hits in one game. He went 5-for-6 with two RBIs and three runs scored in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Those numbers are an exact match to his performance last year in CSUB's 17-12 win over Fresno State on Apr. 7, and he is the only Roadrunner to achieve five hits in one game.

HOME RUN DERBY
Not neccessarily known as a home run-hitting team, the Roadrunners have tallied seven long balls in their first four games this season. They had four in the season-opener alone, then added three more in Saturday's doubleheader. Martin Medina and JJ Henry have two homers apiece while Stuart Smith, Jason Kudlock and Ryan McIntyre have added one each. For reference, in 50 games played in 2009, the Roadrunners had 36 total home runs.

ON THE MOUND
Roadrunner starters Mickey Jannis, Jonathan Montoya, Matt Reyes and Mike McCarthy all picked up wins this past weekend, each going at least six complete innings.

Jannis, earning the season-opening start for the second straight season, recorded six strikeouts and scattered eight hits for four runs.

Montoya fanned a career-high eight, Reyes struck out four and scattered eight hits for three runs in seven innings, and McCarthy

SCOUTING ST. MARY'S
St. Mary's enters the weekend with a 1-2 record, after splitting a pair of games with San Jose State and falling 3-1 to Nevada.

Through three games, senior Michael Cipolla is 6-for-10 with a double and three RBIs. Markus Melguso is 5-for-9 with a triple and Ryan Milligan is 5-for-10 with a home run.

Senior Brandon Berl will get the start on the mound against CSUB on Friday. The RHP has made one start on the year, striking out three while giving up nine hits and three walks for four earned runs in five innings (no decision).

SERIES HISTORY VS. ST. MARY'S
The Roadrunners and Gaels met once during the 2009 season, a match-up that resulted in a 3-1 win for St. Mary's. Erik Draxton pitched 7.1 near-flawless innings for CSUB, giving up just four hits, one walk and one earned run. But the Gaels added a pair of unearned runs and the Roadrunners could only push one across the plate in the top of the ninth.

SCOUTING CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Central Michigan returns all nine starters and several of the reserves from lat year's 28-30 squad, but only 2009 second-team All-Mid-American Conference selection sophomore Trent Howard returns among the weekend rotation.

The lineup features a handful of All-MAC caliber bats in Matt Faiman (.333 avg., 38 RBI), Tyler Kipke (.333 avg., 10 doubles), Billy Anderson (.332, 19 stolen bases), Nate Theunissen (.307 avg., nine home runs) and Andrew Thomas (.373 avg., .613 slugging pct.) and returns 12 players who had 80 at bats or more.

The Chippewas will send senior Jesse Hernandez to the mound against CSUB on Saturday. In 2009, the RHP went 1-3 with a 7.64 ERA in 19 appearances.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CENTRAL MICHIGAN
This marks the first-ever meeting between the Roadrunners and Chippewas in baseball.

SCOUTING CAL
Cal pounded out 46 runs in it's season-opening series against Southern Utah, while not allowing a single run scored. The Golden Bears collected 57 hits, including 19 doubles, two triples and three home runs in the series. Brian Guinn went 7-for-15 in the series, while four others tallied six hits each.

On the mound, Cal kept things tidy with 30 strikeouts to go along with three walks and 22 hits allowed. Justin Jones, Erik Johnson and Derek Anderson each picked up their first win of the season.

In 2009, Cal went 24-29 overall and 9-18 in the Pac-10. Fourteen letterwinners off taht suqad return in 2010.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CAL
This marks the first-ever meeting between the Roadrunners and Bears in baseball.

TOGETHER AGAIN
Bakersfield is the fourth school coaches Bill Kernen and Jody Robinson have worked at together. The two were assistants at Cal State Fullerton in the late 1970's through 1981. During that time, the Titans, who had just made the transition to Division I in 1975, earned five NCAA Tournament appearances, including two trips to the College World Series and a national championship title in 1979. They also teamed up briefly in 1988, both serving as assistants to former Titan Head Coach Augie Garrido, this time at the University of Illinois. In 1991, Kernen was in his second season as the head coach at Cal State Northridge, leading the Matadors through the transition from DII to DI play. Robinson joined the staff as an assistant coach, helping CSUN to a 44–18–1 record, the West Regional championship game and a top 10 ranking in the final NCAA Division I poll in its first season of DI play.
