TURLOCK — Coming off a solid effort against No. 19 UCLA, the CSUB men's soccer team let an early goal slip through the posts and despite 26 shots, fell 1-0 to former CCAA rival Cal State Stanislaus in both team's final exhibition match of the season.
Victor Regalado took a pass up the right flank from Keeyan Ghazanfarpour and was able to knock it past CSUB keeper Eric Shannon just seven minutes in.
Bakersfield generated five corner kicks and 14 shots in the opening frame, but managed just two shots on goal. The second half produced more structured attacks in the Warriors' end, but another 12 shots still did not add up to a score.
Matt Shaxton had six shots in the match, including a diving header off a cross from Chico Ruesga early in the second half that was one of the Roadrunners' best opportunities. Frank Barnes also added six shots.
Regular-season action gets under way Tuesday, Sept. 1 when CSUB travels to take on UC Santa Barbara, the preseason pick to claim the Big West title.
