Seven `Runners Earn Academic All-District Honors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2025 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Cal State Bakersfield Athletics Department learned Tuesday that Roadrunners – one man and six women – earned Academic All-District honors.

Academic All-District and All-America

CSC's Academic All-America® program is widely considered the most stringent honor for student-athletes to achieve as it requires exceptional performance simultaneously in competition and in the classroom. Academically, candidates of at least sophomore standing must have maintained a minimum 3.50 GPA. Athletically, All-District® honorees must have competed in at least 90% of their team's competitions, or started in at least 66% of those contests.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December. for the soccer programs.

Men

Head Coach Adam Grant's program has provided CSUB with a returning `Runner earning Academic All-District® honors: Filip Arras. Arras also earned a spot on the All-Big West Honorable Mention list ranking him among the best and the brightest, academically and athletically.

Arras is a back-to-back Academic All-District® honoree after earning the award in 2024. The native of Melhus, Norway. led the `Runners in assists this year and had a 2 assist game against UC Davis (10/15). He also led the squad in minutes played as well. While playing in mostly every game he was able to get a GPA of 3.77.

Women

On the women's side, first-year Head Coach Whitney Pitalo enjoyed six `Runners earning the prestigious distinction after a historic season that saw CSUB reach the first round of the Big West playoff: Mya Fortun, Kamy Anaya, Mya Clarke, Sara Ybarra, Natalie O'Sullivan, and Paige Rodriguez.

Mya Clarke led the women's squad with the highest GPA of 4.00. Clarke, a sophomore, was a key asset for Cal State Bakersfield as she helped anchor the `Runner backline while also scoring two goals. She is majoring in Kiniseology and hopes to attend medical school after graduation.

Rodriguez owns an amazing 3.94 cumulative GPA while having 1,106 minutes on the season. Ybarra, with a GPA of 3.88, is a second year `Runner who played a vital role in the CSUB midfield this season, tallying three goals and one assist while making 14 starts. 

Mya Fortun played and started in all 19 games for the `Runners this year. The only `Runner field player to tally all 1,710 minutes, Fortun was able to attain a 3.81 GPA while being a defensive stalwart.

Goalkeeper Kamy Anaya also became an Academic All-District honoree with a GPA of 3.66. Anaya was also a member of the All-Big West Honorable Mention list as she had 86 saves with a program-record 19 goals allowed on the season. Natalie O'Sullivan attained a GPA of 3.86 while having a very productive season as well. O'Sullivan had a three-game goal streak that helped the CSUB on their program-record win streak.
