BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Krista Arase showed Friday night that points don't need to be scored in order to dominate a game.
Arase didn't score a single point but was more than visiting Cal State San Bernardino could handle as the Bakersfield sophomore's 10 assists without a turnover led the Roadrunners to a 78-56 win at the Icardo Center.
The win was Bakersfield's 14th consecutive victory and can finish the season on a 15-game win streak with a win over Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night.
In addition to Arase's 10 assists — many of which were of the highlight reel variety — freshman Florida Siaosi continued to impress, earning her team-best 10th double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds in just 25 minutes of action. Siaosi led six Roadrunners in double-figure scoring, with Rhonda Johnson coming off the bench to score 13, while Rhondi Naff and Jessi Loring added 12, Kelley Tarver scored 11 and Katherine Smith score 10.
For San Bernardino, center Vanessa Wilt had a strong performance with 13 points and six rebounds, while Ashlee Ford scored eight points for the Coyotes.
This one was all Bakersfield from the beginning. The Roadrunners never trailed and jumped out to a 20-6 lead just more than five minutes into the contest. San Bernardino would cut the lead to seven at the 11:28 mark of the first half, but Bakersfield immediately put the lead back to double digits and never trailed by less the rest of the way.
Bakersfield closes out the 2007 season on Saturday night on campus when it hosts Cal Poly Pomona at 5:30 p.m.
