BAKERSFIELD, Calif. ? Freshman defender Natalie Haigh recorded a pair of goals and an assist as the CSUB women's soccer team rolled over Westmont College, 5-0, Wednesday night.
The Roadrunners improve to 5-10-1 on the season with the win over the No. 24 nationally ranked NAIA Warriors (9-6-1 overall). With the win last week against Biola, the ?Runners have now posted two straight victories for the first time this season.
Haigh put CSUB on the board at the 13:31 mark when she out-ran a Warrior defender on a through-ball up the right sideline, then sent a shot just out of the hands of keeper Roxanne Love into the left side of the net.
Bakersfield had six total shots in the first half, forcing Love into four saves.
Alexa Vickroy got the second-half rally rolling in 59th minute of plan when she punched in a ball from six yards out. Both Haigh and Briana Estolano earned assists on the goal after building the play up the field.
Haigh netted her second goal of the night in the 68th minute, heading in a perfect cross from the left sideline by Moriah Neville.
Twelve minutes later Neville added a goal of her own, collecting a loose ball into the box following a corner kick and burying it into the net.
Sarah Gaskins rounded out CSUB's scoring at the 83:37 mark, drilling a right-footed shot into the right upper corner of the net after receiving a lofting cross from Kelly Mitterholtzer.
CSUB finished with 18 shots, 12 on goal, while the defense held Westmont to just one shot the entire game.
Roadrunner Head Coach Nicole Van Dyke was not on the bench after suffering moderate injuries in a car accident Wednesday afternoon. Her status for Friday's match at Cal State Northridge is not yet known.
CSUB makes the short trip south Friday for a 2:30 p.m. kick off.
