STOCKTON, Calif. ? Junior outside hitter Sarah Norman (Stockdale HS) pounded out a match?high 15 kills, but it wasn't enough to stop Big West Conference contender the University of the Pacific from earning a 30?16, 30?21, 30?22 win at the Spanos Center in Stockton.
“We didn't compete well tonight and when that happens against a team as talented as Pacific this is the result,” said CSUB Head Coach John Price. “We didn't play poorly, but we weren't ready to play and Pacific is very physical and very skilled.”
Bakersfield (5?15 overall) had just six total kills in game one but still trailed only 10?8 before the Tigers ended the game with a 20?8 rush for the win. The Roadrunners hit a solid .268 in the second game to stay as close as 18?15. But with Pacific hitting .398, their was no room for the 'Runners to catch up.
Bakersfield stayed close in game three as well, pulling to within 17?15 on a Rosemary Stribling (West HS) kill. Pacific scored seven of the next eight points to take control, however, as the Tigers eased away to the win.
Norman was the only 'Runners to reach double figure kills Friday night. Junior libero Mystie McNaughton (Stockdale HS) chipped in a team?high 15 digs.
Megan MimMack led a balanced UOP (12?5) attack with 11 kills while Johanna Hilbers added 10. Julie Magud led three Tigers in double figures with a match?high 16 digs.
