BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — CSU Bakersfield Athletics was well represented Saturday morning as members of the Spirit Squads volunteered at the Move with MADD event at The Park at River Walk.

Members of Cheer, Dance and Rowdy, arrived at 7 a.m. to cheer on runners and walkers, assist event organizers and show support for individuals and families affected by impaired driving.

The Spirit Squads were joined by CSUB student-athletes from track and field and softball, adding to the Roadrunner presence throughout the morning.

"Supporting MADD is the least we can do because, one way or another, we have all been affected by choices made by others in this area," Head Cheer Coach and Spirit Coordinator Arthur Smith said. "Impaired driving is 100% preventable, and hopefully, with tougher laws, we can see it come to an end on our streets."

In addition to cheering along the course, members of the Spirit Squads helped with the awards ceremony following the event helping pass out medals for race placements and helping hand out awards for the Bakersfield Boys and Girls Club poster contest.
