Roadrunners Roll Past Texas Tech, 15-8

LUBBOCK, Texas – CSU Bakersfield closed out the weekend in emphatic fashion Sunday afternoon, powering past Texas Tech, 15-8, behind an explosive offensive performance at Rip Griffin Park.

The Roadrunners wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for five runs in the opening inning. Evan Cloyd started the scoring with a two-run homer, his second of the season, before Elgin Bennett followed with a solo shot. A sacrifice fly from Elijah Pelayo and a solo home run from Kanoa Morisaki capped the first-inning surge.

Cloyd struck again in the second inning, launching a 375-foot home run to deep left for his third of the year, giving CSUB an early commanding lead.

The Roadrunners continued to pour it on in the fourth when Nick Mascaro crushed a 355-foot grand slam — his first homer of the season — extending the advantage. In the sixth, Brendan Thompson added a three-run blast to deep left to further separate CSUB.

Cloyd finished a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI, adding an RBI single in the ninth inning. Bennett collected three hits, while Morisaki, Garrett Teunissen, and Dusty Vela each contributed multi-hit performances as CSUB totaled 14 hits and five home runs on the afternoon.

On the mound, Jacob Gutierrez (2-0) earned the win, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts while allowing just two hits. The Roadrunner pitching staff combined to secure the victory as CSUB played error-free defense behind them.

With the win, the Roadrunners showcased their offensive depth and power, scoring in six different innings to seal the 15-8 Sunday afternoon triumph.
