Bakersfield Breaks Out in 15-2 Rout of Long Beach State

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – CSU Bakersfield delivered one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday, rolling past Long Beach State 15-2 at Whataburger Field in a matchup that offered an early taste of future conference play.

After a scoreless first inning, the Roadrunners erupted for five runs in the second to seize control. They tacked on four more in the fourth, three in the sixth, and three in the seventh, finishing with 15 runs on 13 hits.

Kanoa Morisaki paced the offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two walks. Brendan Thompson drove in three runs, while Nick Mascaro scored three times and added two RBI. Evan Cloyd and Devon Wilkes each recorded two hits as Bakersfield consistently applied pressure throughout the lineup.

The ‘Runners were disciplined and opportunistic, drawing eight walks and going 7-for-18 with runners in scoring position. They also forced the issue on the bases and capitalized on two Long Beach State errors to extend innings.

On the mound, Bakersfield was just as sharp. Roman Bracamonte spun three scoreless innings to open the game, and Ethan Myers (2-0) earned the win with two shutout frames in relief. The Roadrunner staff combined to hold the Beach to six hits and just one hit in eight chances with runners in scoring position.

Long Beach State scratched across two runs in the sixth, but Bakersfield quickly answered and kept the game firmly in hand.

With the programs set to meet again in Big West play later this season, Saturday’s decisive win provided an early statement — and a preview of what’s to come when conference battles begin. CSU Bakersfield will return home Tuesday to Hardt Field, hosting Saint Mary’s at 6:30 p.m.
