Roadrunners Power Past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 7-4

May’s 12 total bases and Gutierrez’s six strikeouts pace Roadrunners

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – CSU Bakersfield earned a 7-4 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night at Whataburger Field as part of the Kleberg Classic. The Roadrunners (3-3) totaled 12 hits and scored in four of the final five innings to secure the win.

Jacob May led the offensive effort, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI. May recorded a triple and hit two home runs, accounting for 12 total bases in the contest.

CSUB broke through in the fifth inning when Brendan Thompson hit a two-out, two-run home run. Thompson finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Roadrunners added two runs in the sixth inning and another in the eighth before tacking on two insurance runs in the ninth. Kanoa Morisaki hit a two-out solo home run in the ninth and finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Evan Cloyd added three hits in a 3-for-5 performance with one RBI, while Matt Dobson delivered a pinch-hit RBI single.

On the mound, Jacob Gutierrez (1-0) earned the win in relief, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out six and walking one. Ryan King started and pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

CSU Bakersfield finished with seven runs on 12 hits. 

The Roadrunners continue play at the Kleberg Classic on Saturday when they face Pitt at 12:00 pm pst.
