Bakersfield Downs Fresno State, Extends Win Streak to 3 Games

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield's women's soccer team blew past visiting Fresno State for a 4-1 victory Thursday night at the Main Soccer Field. During CSUB's “Rally for the Valley” game, the Roadrunners extended their win streak to 3 consecutive matches, scoring 11 goals in that stretch, second-most in the program's Division I history.

Bakersfield went ahead of Fresno State just 2 minutes into the first half on a goal from defender Mya Clarke. The Bulldogs answered back in the 34th minute as the two teams went to halftime tied 1-1.

CSUB Head Coach Whitney Pitalo made some tactical adjustments at the break and the `Runners tore the Fresno State defense apart in the second half to the tune of three more goals:

  • Jaiden Gore made it a 2-1 score when she beat the keeper thanks to a pair of great passes.
  • Natalie O'Sullivan had a point-blank shot for her team-leading third goal of the season.
  • Senior Sara Ybarra capped the scoring in the 78th minute when Isis Salazar-Ortega found her teammate open in the box.

The `Runners will have a short period of time to rest and recharge before returning to the competition field on Sunday, Sept. 14. CSUB will host Idaho for its annual Senior Day with kickoff at the Main Soccer Field set for 11 a.m. (PT).
