Courtland Witt named Head Dance Team Coach

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Cal State Bakersfield has named Courtland Witt as its new head dance coach, effective July 2025.

A Bakersfield native, Courtland brings extensive experience as a dancer, choreographer, and educator. She most recently served as a professor of dance at California Lutheran University, where she developed and taught undergraduate courses, and choreographed original works, including a piece featured at the 2025 American College Dance Association Baja Conference.

Witt earned a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in dance and management, and a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a focus on marketing, both from Cal Lutheran.

Her teaching background also includes several years at Civic Dance Center in Bakersfield, where she taught students in the areas of hip hop, jazz, ballet and tap. She has been recognized for her ability to build strong team culture and choreograph engaging routines for performances and competitions.

"I am thrilled to lead the CSUB dance team and build upon their continued success in athletics and the community," Witt said. "I am confident that together, we will achieve new and exciting opportunities."

"We were thrilled to welcome Courtland to the CSUB Spirit family," said Arthur Smith, Head cheerleading coach and Spirit Coordinator. "Her leadership and passion for student development make her a perfect fit for not only our dance team, but for our community."
