BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Cheer and Dance teams were front and center this week as CSUB welcomed incoming freshmen and their families during the annual Freshman and Family Orientations held inside the Icardo Center from Tuesday, July 8 through Thursday, July 10.
Designed to introduce first-time students to campus life, the New Student Orientation featured informational sessions, campus tours and keynote addresses from university leaders, including the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Associated Students Inc. (ASI) Student Body President. The Roadrunner Rundown Orientation serve as a way to ease the transition into college by offering insight into academic expectations, campus resources, and student life.
Spirit squads played a key role in energizing the crowd during the opening morning sessions. Members were seen greeting attendees upon arrival and entertaining guests with high-energy performances, prize giveaways, and interactive lessons on how to flash the official Roadrunner hand sign. Spirit squads not only entertained guests, but also helped instill a sense of community and tradition among the newest members of the Roadrunner family.
"The spirit squads brought the event to life," said one orientation attendee. "They really made everything feel more exciting and welcoming. I loved winning a prize too"
As the 2025–2026 season approaches, the spirit squads are ramping up preparations for a full calendar of appearances, games and performances. Fans can catch the spirit squads next during the annual Rowdy Run, set to take place at the Women's Soccer game on the evening of August 28.
