BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The CSU Bakersfield spirit squad made its debut at the Kern County Fair on opening night, marking the first time the spirit squads have participated at the fair in this capacity.
The 20 minute showcase highlighted the CSU Bakersfield Spirit Squads with a joint performance of the fight song, followed by a high-energy routine from the dance team and a cheerleading performance that drew cheers and applause from the crowd.
"This was a great opportunity for us to share our Roadrunner pride with the community," said head cheerleading coach Arthur Smith. "The ladies had a blast, and with such a young team, it was great to get them out in front of people and see them showcase their talents."
Head dance coach Courtland Witt said the fair provided a valuable stage for her team. "For our dancers, this was a chance to bring energy and school spirit into a completely different setting than a traditional home game," Witt said. "The ladies loved connecting with the community in such a fun atmosphere."
"Performing at the fair was such a unique experience, and I can't wait to do it again," said Haley York, a senior member of the dance team.
The evening ended with the squads tossing giveaways to fans in the audience. Fans can catch the spirit squads again Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 5:30 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 26, at 9:30 p.m. on the KC Loop Stage.
