CSUB Wins Big West Home Opener

Bakersfield, CA —  The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners secured an impressive 11-7 victory over CSUN in a thrilling, high-scoring contest that featured both offensive fireworks and clutch plays. Despite early setbacks, the Roadrunners showed remarkable resilience, overcoming deficits with timely hitting and solid pitching to come out on top.

The game started with a bang as Evan Cloyd launched a two-run homer in the first inning, his fourth of the season, to give CSUB a 2-0 lead. However, CSUN quickly responded, as Jarren Sanderson connected for a two-run homer of his own, putting the Matadors ahead 3-2.

CSUB wasted little time regaining the lead. In the second inning, Tyler Leroy drove in a run, and Noah Alvarez followed with a sacrifice bunt that pushed the Roadrunners ahead 4-3. From there, the game remained tight, with both teams exchanging runs in the following innings, but it was the Roadrunners who ultimately seized control in the eighth.

Key contributions in the eighth came from Louis Zulaica, Leroy, and an aggressive steal of home that gave CSUB a 10-7 advantage. To cap off the inning, Mascaro delivered an RBI single, pushing the Roadrunners' lead to 11-7 and sealing the victory.

On the mound, Jack Leary earned the win for CSUB, delivering a stellar 4.1 innings of relief, keeping CSUN's offense at bay when it mattered most. Leary's performance helped the Roadrunners stay in control, and the team finished the game with 11 runs on 15 hits, a strong offensive showing throughout.
