Bakersfield Remains Unbeaten in Big West Play

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - For the second-straight game, the Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team enjoyed some late heroics leading to an equalizing goal. In Saturday night's Big West road match at UC Santa Barbara, the Roadrunners scored an 81st-minute goal on the way to a 1-1 draw. The matchup featured the league's top two teams, who remain deadlocked atop the Big West standings following Saturday's draw.

The two teams played a tight, scoreless first half before host UC Santa Barbara broke through early in the second period. The Gauchos netted the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute.

Bakersfield continued to fight all the way to the end of the match, and persistence paid off once again as the `Runners finally broke through in the 81st minute. Earning a free kick in a dangerous spot, set piece specialist Filip Arras served a perfect ball into the Gaucho box. Arras found the head of freshman Jacob Bernauer, who flicked the ball past the UCSB keeper for his second goal of the week.

With the draw, CSUB will return home for a pair of games in Bakersfield next week, looking to hold on to its lead in the Big West. Wednesday night's match looks to feature a big turnout as the `Runners host their annual Viva Los `Runners night (see more info below).
