Great Pitching Lead CSUB to a Shut Out Against Cal Poly

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team had a doubleheader split this Friday afternoon with Bakersfield taking their first conference road game again the mustangs in a 5-0 shut out battle.

Starting pitcher Ryan Verdugo showed out on the mound again for the second weekend in a row for the Roadrunners. Pitching seven innings of no run baseball, the junior struck out six mustangs only giving up a scatter of seven hits. Verdugo has now thrown 17.1 consecutive innings without giving a run up.

Tagging in relief was redshirt sophomore Nick Perry who closed out the game for the `Runners. He has allowed just a single run over his last 7.2 innings of work as a relief pitcher.

Bakersfield's offense was an all around team effort, with Nick Salas leading the way hitting .299 for the game, having one rbi off of three at bats.

The `Runners will play for the series win Sunday at 1:00 pm. CSUB will then return home, Apr. 19-21, to host UC San Diego at Hardt Field.
