Bakersfield, CA- CSU Bakersfield cheerleading team has named Breanna Contreras as it's Athlete of the Month for February. A Bakersfield native, Breanna is a Junior who attended Bakersfield High School. A nursing major, Breanna is on track to graduate in Spring 2025.
"Breanna has been a steady contributor for our program for years as a flyer. Someone we can count on to represent our program in a positive manner both on and off the court." said head coach, Arthur Smith.
Q. What does it mean to be voted Athlete of the Month by your teammates?
"To me it means a lot, because it means that my teammates notice and care about the hard work I'm put in over the last month. To know that my team notice my hard work is cool."
Q. What were you focused on in the last month that's lead you to being named Athlete of the Month.?
"I just focused on working hard on my tumbling and with my group on new stunts. I put in extra work on my tumbling with coach and outside of practice. I came early to practice and stayed late with my group to work on stunts. It feels good seeing that work paying off, and it fun doing new stunts with my group in front of the fans. "
Q. What advice would you give a teammate that inspires to be named Athlete of the Month.?
"Just to trust themselves and have fun. I think we all want to do good, but sometimes we can get too serious and that messes us up. I like to joke around and have fun, and I think that helps on those days when stunts or tumbling isn't going so well. So, I would tell anyone to simply have fun and know that your hard work will pay off."
