Meet the `Runners 2023-24: Upperclassmen

The Cal State Bakersfield Beach Volleyball team is about to get the season underway with matches starting next week. Before then, we want you to get to know first-year Head Coach Andy Fulenwider and the 2024 roster, continuing with the Roadrunner upperclassmen, which consist of five juniors and one senior.

Fulenwider on the group of six: "Our upperclassmen bring a strong sense of leadership and experience to our program this year. Their growth mindset has helped them rapidly progress as players and become much stronger than where they started at the beginning of this season. I am incredibly proud of the rapid improvement our team has made in the short time that we've had together. I look forward to watching them continue to develop as players and individuals as the season continues."

  • Earned Indoor Volleyball 1st Team All-Conference in 2021 and Second Team All-Conference in 2022
  • Named Beach Volleyball 1st Team All-Conference in 2022 and 2023
  • Indoor Volleyball Western State Conference Champion in 2021 and 2022
  • Beach Volleyball Western State Conference Champion in 2023 and CCCAA Beach Volleyball State Runner-up

#11 Megan Gilbert (Redshirt Junior)

  • Posted a 16-9 record on the year, pairing exclusively with Pearl Moore as No. 5 pair
  • 16 wins tied for seventh in CSUB single-season history and .640 win percentage ranks fourth
  • Went 3-0 against Cal Poly's No. 5 pair on the year, including a thrilling, three-set win at the Big West Championship
  • As of the end of the 2023 season, she ranks first all-time in CSUB history in career win percentage (22-14, .611)
 
#21 Pearl Moore (Senior)
  • 5 foot 7
  • From Seattle
  • In second year at CSUB after transferring from UAB
  • Posted a 16-9 record on the year, pairing exclusively with Megan Gilbert as No. 5 pair
  • 16 wins tied for seventh in CSUB single-season history and .640 win percentage ranks fourth
  • Went 3-0 against Cal Poly's No. 5 pair on the year, including a thrilling, three-set win at the Big West Championship
 
CSUB's 2024 season will kick off next week with back-to-back weekends on the road. Bakersfield will host the Barnes Beach Complex `Runner Invite, on Mar. 8 and 9, featuring fans' first opportunity to see this year's squad in action in person. Admission to CSUB beach volleyball home matches is free.
