CSUB Women’s Soccer’s Historic Season Ends in Big West Championship Shootout
HONOLULU, Hawaii – CSU Bakersfield’s women’s soccer team concluded its record-breaking season on Sunday with a hard-fought tie against UC Santa Barbara in the Big West Championship. After a scoreless match through regulation and overtime, the `Runners fell 8-7 in a penalty kick shootout, narrowly missing their first conference title.
CSUB took an early lead with Cynthia Ramirez scoring in the first half, followed by a second goal from Isis Salazar shortly after halftime, giving the `Runners a two-goal advantage. Goalkeeper Kamy Anaya made critical saves to keep the game level in the second half, as UCSB fought back to tie the game and send it to overtime.
This championship appearance marks a historic achievement for the `Runners, who became the first team in CSUB history to reach the Big West Championship since joining the conference. Although CSUB fell in the shootout, their extraordinary postseason run has set a new milestone for the program and inspired excitement for future seasons.
