4-1 Victory Gives CSUB Chance to Win Big West Title

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team exploded for a 4-1 victory over UC Riverside in Saturday night's Big West matchup. The offensive outburst was the biggest of the season for the Roadrunners, who earned three vital points in the league standings. With only one match remaining (next Saturday, Nov. 2, at Cal Poly), the `Runners are currently second in the Big West table, just one point behind UC Santa Barbara, giving Bakersfield a chance to earn a Regular Season title next weekend.

Here's how the match went down:

  • Defender Sinan Solmaz got the `Runners on the board first, heading home a cross from Kevin Estrada in the 18th minute
  • 20 minutes later, fellow German Adrian Jogerst doubled CSUB's lead when he snuck home a pin-point pass from Bilal Mihoubi
  • CSUB needed just over two more minutes to extend its lead to 3-0 when Aaron Biggerstaff buried his first goal of the season on another assist from Estrada
  • UCR finally got on the board thanks to a penalty kick in the 65th minute
  • Bakersfield answered back with the dagger in the 73rd minute when leading scorer Connor Mautino netted his 11th goal of the season to make it 4-1

The `Runners could earn the Big West Regular Season title with a win at Cal Poly next weekend as well as a loss from league leader UC Santa Barbara.
