• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer team (4-5-1, 1-1-0 BW) has hit its stride in the 2025 season, picking back up with momentum gained at the end of the previous campaign. 
• Bakersfield’s 2024 squad made a deep run into the postseason, reaching the Big West Championship match before ultimately falling in penalty kicks.  
• Under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Whitney Pitalo, the 2025 Roadrunner roster features 32 women: 18 returners and 14 newcomers.  
• So far this season, the `Runners have utilized a well-balanced offense, featuring eight different goalscorers: 
  • CSUB’s top offensive weapons this year have been seniors Natalie O’Sullivan and Cynthia Ramirez, each of which have been named Big West Offensive Player of the Week. 
• Senior defender Mya Fortun has proved to be an ironwoman as the only `Runner field player this season to play all 900 minutes. 

CSUB at Cal Poly (4-1-7, 2-1-0 BW) 

• The most anticipated matchup of the season has arrived as the `Runners face off against former Head Coach Bernardo Silva:

CSUB at UC Santa Barbara (8-2-3, 1-0-2 BW) 

• The `Runners will face off against the red-hot Gauchos, who have suffered just one loss in their last 12 contests:

• UCSB has enjoyed the upperhand the all-time series, 9-1-4, but the two teams have been even, 1-1-3, since Bakersfield joined the Big West in 2020.

• Cal State Bakersfield’s men’s soccer team (0-7-1) kicks off league play with a pair of road matches this week. 
• The Roadrunner men’s soccer team made a run at the Big West regular season title in 2024 and will look to finish the job heading into 2025.  
• Cal State Bakersfield played for the Big West crown in the regular season finale despite being predicted to finish last in the 2024 preseason Coaches Poll.

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team (3-11, 0-2 BW) continues the 2025 season and will welcome Big West foes to the Icardo Center for the first time this season. 
• The new-look Roadrunners are building team chemistry from the ground up as the CSUB roster features only one returner who was on the squad last Fall.

• Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Eric Bugby, the Cal State Bakersfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will unofficially kick off the 2025-26 this weekend. 
  • Bugby brings a wealth of experience, including several recent team championships, from his previous stop as the leader of the swim & dive squads at Niagara University. 
• Bakersfield’s swim & dive teams welcome back a strong core of veterans while adding a nice complement of newcomers to the mix. 
• Bugby and the `Runners have selected a set of veteran leaders to guide each of the squads as team captains:

CSUB vs. Blue-Gold Meet 

• The `Runners will unofficially open the season with an intrasquad meet:

  • Admission to CSUB Swim & Dive events is always free and parking on meet days is also free, courtesy of CSUB Athletics, starting two hours before the meet. 
• Coach Bugby described the event as his favorite meet of the year, besides postseason championships
• The `Runners, split into their Blue and Gold rosters, have been competing all week long leading up to the meet, in and out of the water. 
  • Rock-Paper-Scissors and 6-square were two particularly hotly-contested events 
• Bugby will use the Blue-Gold Meet to see where the team actually is heading into the year, recognizing that practice and race day have a different feel.
• Fans can expect the `Runners to have hyped energy as Blue vs. Gold battle for a men’s and women’s combined scoring title and maybe even some meet records.
