Men's Soccer

Get to Know CSUB Men's Soccer: Goalkeepers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A little over a week remains until the kickoff of the 2023 men's soccer season for Cal State Bakersfield. With Interim Head Coach Adam Grant taking the reins late in Summer, the Roadrunners are working to navigate the small bump in the road to chasing a Big West title.

After earning a 6-0 decision in last week's first exhibition match, CSUB will face a pair of tough tests this week while wrapping up its exhibition slate. The `Runners will host California Baptist, a 2022 NCAA Tournament participant, before heading south to take on UCLA, which made a Sweet Sixteen appearance last year.

Before the season officially starts on Aug. 24, we want to introduce fans to the team, providing more insight into the person behind the name, number, and uniform. First up in our position-by-position breakdown of the `Runner men's soccer team, meet Bakersfield's goalkeepers.

Notable
  • Grant on the group of netminders: "We really like the group we brought in. We have two freshmen and one transfer. All three have different levels of experience, but are all really highly rated. They are all going to be able to compete and goalkeeping is going to continue to be a real strength for us this season."
  • Grant on the team's veterans: "I think we're really confident in our group of returners. They understand what we want and expect and they're driven to be successful, so the core eight or nine guys that is still here from last season and the Spring is going to play a big role for our program moving forward."
  • Grant on the large crop of newcomers: "We wanted to be a bit more dangerous in the attacking third, so we recruited to strengthen those areas for sure. We feel that we did that and we feel that have some really good athletes and some creative players coming in."
