Roadrunners Prepare for Fresno State Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Most of the Cal State Bakersfield track and field athletes prepare one last time at the Fresno State Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Apr. 28-29, before the Big West Championships.

First event is set for 2:00 p.m. on Friday with the men's and women's hammer throw at Warmerdam Field in Fresno, Calif. The rest of the events will be held in Clovis. Calif. at the Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The men's javelin will be the first field event at 10:00 a.m. Running events are set to begin at 1:00 p.m.

Teams also competing this weekend are Washington State, Boise State, San Jose, University of Nevada, University of Washington, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State. The invite will also include multiple professional athletes.

Notables for the Women 
  • Last weekend Riley Slayton took the win in the 400-meter hurdles. Slayton leads the Big West in the event.
  • Miranda Miller is coming off her season best height of 13'08.50" in the pole vault. Miller placed first in the event for the eighth time this season. She earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors from the Big West this week.
  • Julie Johnson will compete in the 400-meters and will be anchor the 4x400-meters relay.
  • Helena Valentic has made it on the CSUB all-time performance list in four different events this season. Valentic is set to race the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She ranks second all-time in the event.
  • In the 100-meter and 200-meter races, Nerissa Thompson has set multiple personal bests this season. Thompson looks continue the momentum in the events this weekend.
  • Julia Stein is set for both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.
