`Runners Close MPSF Meet with 2 More Medals

ST. GEORGE, Utah / MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – The 2023 MPSF Swimming and Diving Championships came to a close Saturday night, but not before the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners added to their hardware and accomplishments. Senior Mikayla Popham and freshman Vili Sivec combined to win two more MPSF medals as CSUB wrapped up a successful conference meet with all-around strong performances.

Quotes from Director of Swimming Chris Hansen
  • "Vili and Mikayla led the night with more medals. Vili's second-place in the 200 fly was a big time swim. Brad Prolo (BYU) has won the event the last two years; five more yards and Vili's silver would have been gold."
  • "Mikayla's bronze in the 100 free was awesome; breaking the 50-second barrier is next level."
  • "Kylie placing eighth and Hannah's best time in the 1650 placing 12th scored us big points. Lorena, Danielle, and Chelaine also stepped it up, scoring tonight."
  • "Jacob going 11th and Arthur going 15th in the mile was also an important event for us. Antonio, Dillon, and Adrian also helped the men tonight with points in their individual events."
  • "I'm super proud of how the team performed this weekend. Next up, Vili and Arthur head to Florida for World Trials and a bunch of us will go to Indiana for the NICs!"
  • Co-Diving Coach Adam Estrella on Saturday's performance on the platform: "For a team with very little tower practice, I was very happy with how they all preformed today finishing off their conference meet. The men all scored today and Dyson earned All-Conference, which is a great accomplishment. Chloe was very consistent, from warmups all the way through the competition. Madi hurt her knee on her fourth dive, but toughed it out to finish off the competition strong."
