Beard Announces Assistant Coaches for 2022-23

Bakersfield – California State University, Bakersfield Head Baseball Coach Jeremy Beard has announced his coaching staff for the 2022-23 season, including new additions David Tillotson and Brady Corrigan. Assistant Coach Quinn Hawksworth returns to the Roadrunner bench, alongside Undergraduate Assistant Mylz Jones. CSUB will play its third season as members of The Big West Conference in the Spring of 2023.

Hawksworth returns for his third season in Bakersfield and will see his role increase with an elevation to Recruiting Coordinator in addition to his on-field coaching duties. As Recruiting Coordinator, he while oversee and coordinate the daily details that come with recruiting both on-campus and off-campus in today's NCAA environment.

"Coach Hawksworth has been diligent at helping us find competitive players that fit our caliber of recruiting needs in the Big West Conference," Beard said. "He has been instrumental in working through the newest dynamics of recruiting Division 1 baseball. Coach Hawksworth understands what it means to be a Roadrunner and he will make an excellent Recruiting Coordinator for our program."

Jones enters his second season as CSUB's undergraduate assistant. He serves as a hitting instructor and first-base coach for the 'Runners, following an extended minor league career that saw him reach AAA. Jones competed for the Roadrunners from 2013-2015, hitting .289 over three seasons. He was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 2015 Major League Baseball entry draft.

"We are thrilled to have Mylz back on staff this season," Beard said. "He is as good a hitting instructor at all levels as I've seen in 25 years of coaching. His ability to communicate and connect with our players is a key part of our team development."

Tillotson and Corrigan have already begun their first seasons on staff with the Roadrunners.

"We took a step in the right direction building our coaching staff as we continue to climb to a Big West formidable baseball program. Improving our staffing needs has been a priority for our program since joining the highly competitive Big West Conference," Beard explained. "After an extensive search this past summer, we found a couple of outliers that understand our challenges as a program and that will find solutions to benefit our student athletes, athletic department, university, and baseball community of Kern County."

Tillotson spent the 2022 season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at the University of Southern California, where he coached catchers, coached first base and assisted with offensive instruction. He played an integral role in the team's analytics, managing TrackMan data reports for player development and scouting.

Tillotson spent the 2021 summer as an assistant with the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League, a collegiate summer league in the Pacific Northwest.

From 2019-21, he served as the Director of Analytics and Player Development for the baseball team at UC Santa Barbara, utilizing Synergy, TrackMan, Rapsodo, Blast Motion, Pitch Logic and other programs to collaborate on the development of student-athletes and game planning.

Tillotson taught Biology and Chemistry at Cleveland Central High School in Cleveland, Miss., where he also served as an assistant coach for the baseball and soccer programs.

He started 40 games at catcher for Centralia College from 2013-14, before transferring to the University of Washington and serving as a Student-Manager and Video Coordinator with the Huskies.

"David is a true foxhole guy, willing to do whatever it takes to serve our staff, student-athletes and program at an elite level," Beard said. "He brings a unique skillset that will offer our players innovative ways to train specific needs. He will primarily focus on working with our catchers and oversee our offensive and defensive analytics, but his ability to work on player development in multiple areas is of huge value."

Corrigan captained the Arizona State Sun Devils as a sophomore, junior and senior, competing for the school from 2017-2021 and earning All-Pac12 Honorable Mention honors as both a player and a student in his career. He earned the 2019 Sun Devil Award and served on the department's Student-Athlete Advisory Council in 2018.

After graduating with a degree in Business Communication, Corrigan remained at ASU and worked as a Student Assistant Coach while pursuing his Master's in Organizational Leadership.

He spent last summer working with the Cowlitz Black Bears of the West Coast League, serving as the team's pitching coach and operations manager.

Corrigan also spent several summers managing camps and clinics for collegiate summer baseball leagues in Alaska and on Cape Cod.

"Brady is a promising up and coming coach, who has learned from several mentors with philosophies consistent with CSUB's pitching plan moving forward," Beard noted. "With a strong group of pitchers on campus this fall, Coach Corrigan will impact our overall staff development. He was a three-time team captain at ASU with proven leadership qualities as a student-athlete. I'm excited to help Brady develop as he transitions into a coaching career."
