Four Victories Highlight Mustang Invitational

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield men and women's track and field battled rain and crosswinds at Cal Poly on Friday bringing home four individual victories. The Roadrunners also had several runner-up finishes and personal bests at the Mustang Invitational.

"We struggled a few times with some cold rain and some crosswinds," said Director of Track and Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, "but we did have some people really step up and do well."

Jacob Whitby won his first hammer throw event of the season. His mark is number nine in program history. Mariah LeSure, Riley Slayton and Miranda Miller also took first place on Friday. For Miranda Miller it marks her seventh win of the season and seventh time over four meters. Riley Slayton led a one-two-three sweep in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time. She now has won four times on the year. Mariah LeSure took home two Top 3 marks placing first in the 100m and third in the 200m.

Thomas Richardson placed second in shot put and fourth in hammer throw.

Julia Stein picked up a pair of second place finishes in both women's hurdles events including a personal best in the 100mH.

Curtis Threlkeld was second in the 1500m, which is not his specialty event, and ran third leg on the 1600m relay that finished second. JJ Flores, Derek Crawford, and SkyBlue Gonzales were first, second, and fourth legs on the men's relay squad.

Aj Frausto ran a season best to finish third in the 3000m race adding to the Roadrunners' success at Cal Poly despite difficult weather conditions.

CSUB will return to action next weekend at Fresno State Friday and Saturday.
