General

Edler-Davis, Miller Named Big West Scholar Athletes of the Year

The stories of all 22 scholar-athletes will be featured on ESPN+ on Monday, April 4.

IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced the 22 individuals named Big West Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Justin Edler-Davis (men's basketball) and Miranda Miller (women's track & field) were each recognized as CSU Bakersfield Athletics' award winners. Two student-athletes from each institution – one male and one female – were honored by their institutions and the conference for their accomplishments in competition, in the classroom and in their communities.

Justin Edler-Davis just completed his sixth and final season as a member of the Roadrunners men's basketball team. He came to CSUB as a true freshman but utilized both a redshirt year and an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over that time, Edler-Davis established himself as a vocal leader in the program. An Honorable Mention All-Big West performer in the 2020-21 season, Edler-Davis is now the school's all-time leader in career games played. A versatile player, he also ranks in the program's Top 10 in career points and rebounds.

Edler-Davis graduated from CSUB in Communications and made use of his extra time on campus to begin working on a second bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies. He hopes to be an ESPN analyst after his playing days.

Miranda Miller is currently in her second season with CSUB track and field.  Since her freshman season, she has been the `Runners indoor and outdoor record holder in that event. Miller finished 3rd in the pole vault at The Big West Track & Field Championships last year. This season, Miller currently ranks first in the Big West, fourth in the NCAA West region, and 10th in the nation behind a 4.26m (13'11.75") mark. A consistent winner in her event, she has recorded four vault wins in five outdoor meets.

As a kinesiology major, she's made the Dean's List every semester and was named Academic All-Big West and one of CSUB's ROWDYs Newcomers of the Year. Her career goal is to become a Physical Education teacher and track and field coach.
