• Cal State Bakersfield’s men’s soccer team (3-10-3, 3-3-2 Big West) is preparing for the final game of the regular season while the team is locking in to make it into the playoffs.  
• The Roadrunner men’s soccer team made a run at the Big West regular season title in 2024 and will look to finish the job heading into 2025.  
  • Cal State Bakersfield played for the Big West crown in the regular season finale despite being predicted to finish last in the 2024 preseason Coaches Poll.  
• Third-year Head Coach Adam Grant looks to a large crop of experienced `Runners to lead a talented group of newcomers.  
• Goalkeeper Zenden Hart was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6 following a pair of road shutouts. 
• Bakersfield has played short-handed most of this season, missing 2 or 3 starters per match, including First Team All-Conference defender Luka Geishauser.

  • The Mustangs lead the `Runners in the all-time series, 28-5-5. 
• Since joining The Big West in 2020, Cal Poly is 3-0-1 against CSUB. 
• A year ago, the `Runners played against the Mustangs once again, which resulted in a win for Cal Poly, 1-0. 
  • The match ultimately decided the Big West title. CSUB eventually fell in a hard-fought battle with the deciding goal coming in the 87th minute.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer team (8-7-2, 5-3-1 BW) has hit its stride in the 2025 season, picking back up with momentum gained at the end of the previous campaign. 
• Bakersfield’s 2024 squad made a deep run into the postseason, reaching the Big West Championship match before ultimately falling in penalty kicks.  
• Under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Whitney Pitalo, the 2025 Roadrunner roster features 32 women: 18 returners and 14 newcomers.  
• So far this season, the `Runners have utilized a well-balanced offense, featuring ten different goalscorers: 
  • CSUB’s top offensive weapons this year have been Natalie O’Sullivan, Cynthia Ramirez, and Jaiden Gore each of which have been named Big West Offensive Player of the Week. 
• Senior defender Mya Fortun has proved to be an ironwoman as the only `Runner field player this season to play all 1,530 minutes.

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team (5-17, 2-8 Big West) continues the 2025 season and will face two Big West foes this week.
• The new-look Roadrunners are building team chemistry from the ground up as the CSUB roster features only one returner who was on the squad last Fall.
• The `Runners are led by co-interim Head Coaches, Felipe Nogueira and Cinthia Angus, both of whom have previous head coaching experience.
• CSUB’s fresh-faced roster welcomes back one returner, Druegan Davis, as well as 14 newcomers. Highlights of a few first-time `Runners:
  • Nicole Zake (So.): Transferred to CSUB in December from Virginia Tech
  • Suelen Lima (So.): Spent freshman season at William Carey University, helping the Crusaders post a 29-11 record and reach the NAIA National Tournament
  • Luiza Da Cruz (Jr.): Led Miami Dade College to NJCAA Runner-Up finishes in 2023 and 2024, falling to her now-teammate Nele Broszat’s team in the National Championship a year ago.

• UC Santa Barbara is currently 4th in the Big West standings; having only lost 3 conference games the Gauchos are sure to bring a challenge to the `Runners.
• Bakersfield and UC Santa Barbara have started their matches back in 2016, the leader in the all-time series is currently the Gauchos, 7-2.
• The `Runners played the Gauchos twice last season. Both teams earned a 3-0 win in their home court.

• Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Eric Bugby, the Cal State Bakersfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host their first dual meet of the season.
  • Bugby brings a wealth of experience, including recent championships, from his previous stop as the leader of the swim & dive squads at Niagara University.
• Bakersfield’s swim & dive teams welcome back a strong core of veterans while adding a nice complement of newcomers to the mix.

CSUB vs. Pacific

• The CSUB men and women are greeting the Tigers in hopes to once again start a winning streak after having had lost for the first time last year since 2007.
• A year ago, the men faced off against the Tigers who gave the `Runners a challenging meet that ended in a 177-85 win for Pacific.
• On the women's side, Pacific ended the meet with a 156-106 victory against Bakersfield.
• CSUB will compete against some familiar faces as a couple of the Pacific Tigers were fellow `Runners last year.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women's cross country program has completed three regular-season meets and is ready to take on the Big West Championships.
• Freshman Ava Leisenfelder set the program’s freshman 4k and 6k records this season and has been impressive all season long.
• Rain Gomez and Crystal Torrecillas have peaked at the right moment. They are coming off big personal records in the 6k. Gomez ran the fourth fastest time in program history two weeks ago at the Bronco Invitational.
• Newcomer Crystal Raya and senior Valerie Garcia are a strong 4-5 duo for the squad.

• The Cal State Bakersfield men’s basketball team is preparing to open the 2025-26 season with a road trip. 
• The Roadrunners are under new leadership as Acting Head Coach Mike Scott took over the helm five weeks before the start of the season. 
  • Scott is in his ninth season with the `Runners, previously serving as an Assistant Coach prior to being elevated to the program’s leader. 
• Cal State Bakersfield returns six men from last year’s squad while welcoming eight newcomers to the mix. 
• The `Runner roster features four veterans who are expected to set the standard: guard CJ Hardy, forward Tom Mark, guard/forward Jaden Alexander, and guard Kadar Waller.

• CSUB will open the season at Cal for the second-straight season. 
• Last year in the game also played in Berkeley, the Golden Bears used a big halftime lead to hold on for an 86-73 win over the `Runners. 
• Monday’s matchup will the seventh time in the all-time series with Cal leading 4-2 overall. 
• The `Runners will be looking for their first win against the Golden Bears since eliminating Cal in the first round of the 2017 NIT.

• Cal State Bakersfield looks to second-year Head Coach Ari Wideman to lead the way.
  • Wideman welcomed three new assistant coaches after her first season, looking to infuse the program with fresh energy.
• Wideman’s roster is heavily composed of newcomers while two experienced `Runners return for another year in the Blue and Gold.

  • The rivalry will be renewed next season as UVU is scheduled to join The Big West.

• Monday’s game features just the second meeting between CSUB and UVU since the `Runners left the WAC at the end of the 2019-20 season.
• The last time UVU came to Bakersfield, in February of 2020, the Wolverines came out with an overtime victory against CSUB.
• The two teams faced off in Orem, Utah a year ago where the Wolverines ousted the `Runners, 72-48.
