• The Cal State Bakersfield Men’s Soccer team battled in the final game of the season versus Cal Poly, losing 2-0. 
• Head Coach Adam Grant set up a tough non-conference schedule for his squad, which featured four different teams that were either ranked or received votes in the NCAA Top 25 polls at some point this season. 
  • Despite finishing the preseason with an 0-7-1 record, the Roadrunners were clearly well-prepared to compete in The Big West. 
• Bakersfield played short-handed most of the preseason, missing two or more starters per match, including First Team All-Conference defender Luka Geishauser, and both of the team’s captains. 
  • Geishauser finally made his return shortly before conference matches began and he made an immediate impact on the back line. 
• Bakersfield entered the week looking to clinch a spot in the Big West Championships but came up just one spot short, tying for sixth in the conference but being eliminated on a tiebreaker. 

CSUB 0, Cal Poly 2 

• CSUB found itself in early foul trouble, racking up 9 fouls in the first half. 
  • Cal Poly gained an early lead, scoring the first goal of the match in the 23rd minute following a penalty kick that also resulted in a red card for Bakersfield. 
• The Mustangs volume of shots (15 total in the game, 8 in the first half) helped them further their lead scoring their second goal in the 42nd minute. 
• Bakersfield cut down their fouls in the second half, only committing three, but weren’t able to land the shots they needed to cut into the Mustang lead. 
  • The Roadrunners had four goal shots in the second half, one more than they did in the first. 
• CSUB’s final hope of clinching a spot in the Big West Championships came down to UCSD and Cal State Fullerton needing to tie, but the Tritons scored in the final minutes to take 1-0 lead, ultimately putting an end to Bakersfield’s post season hopes. 

• Cal State Bakersfield entered the week playing host to Cal State Fullerton, only to find themselves playing the Titans twice in the week. 
• Bakersfield traveled to Fullerton following the mid-week loss setting up a rematch for the first round of the Big West Championships. 
• The conference announced the All-Big West teams, CSUB had six recognized for their efforts on the year. 
  • Cynthia Ramirez (All-Big West First Team), Mya Fortun (All-Big West Second Team), Jaiden Gore (All-Big West Freshman Team), Isis Salazar-Ortego (All-Big West Honorable Mention), Kamy Anaya (All-Big West Honorable Mention), and Sara Ybarra (All-Big West Honorable Mention) 
• Mya Fortun was an ironwoman as the defender is the only `Runner field play to play all 1,710 minutes this season. The ironwoman anchored the CSUB backline that allowed just 1.00 goals per match during Big West play. 
• Senior goalkeeper Kamy Anaya led the Big West with 5.20 saves per game during league play. 

CSUB 0, Cal State Fullerton 2 

• The Roadrunners clinched a berth in the Big West Championship tournament last week with the 2-1 victory over Hawai'i. 
• CSUB entered this matchup with a chance to finish as high as the second seed with a win over the Titans. 
• CSUF let off a flurry of shots in the match, getting off 20 shots, ten in each half. 
• Kamy Anaya was able to hold off the Titans in the first half, keeping it scoreless until the 55th minute as CSUF was finally able to break through and get on the board on a penalty kick. 
• Fullerton’s tough defense kept Bakersfield from getting on the board and furthered their lead with another goal late in the second half setting themselves up with a victory.  
• Bakersfield would enter the post season as the six-seed. 

CSUB 0, Cal State Fullerton 1 

• Following Bakersfield’s loss earlier in the week, they got a chance at avenging themselves in the post season. 
• The Roadrunners looked to recreate the magic they had last season that ultimately led them to the championship game. 
• Bakersfield and Fullerton played another tightly contested match to kick off the Big West Championships. 
• The Titans and Roadrunners would remain scoreless in the first half, CSUB goalkeeper, Kamy Anaya, staved off CSUF’s pressure saving four goal shots. 
• The match remained scoreless until the 88th minute as Fullerton finally broke the tie on a deflected shot. 

• The Roadrunner volleyball team was back at home in the Icardo center for another pair poof Big West Matches. Putting up a good fight but dropping both matches, against two of the best teams in the league.
• Pin hitter Druegan Davis was a force at the net:
  • Davis averaged 3.67 kills per set on .442 hitting percentage.
• Suelen Lima match Davis with 3.67 kills per set.
• Setter Luiza Da Cruz took over as the lead passer and averaged 8.50 assists per set.
• Libero Boden Liljedahl averaged 3.50 digs per set across the pair of matches.

• The `Runners earned took their first loss of the weekend against the Mustang who are currently 10-2 in conference: 25-18, 25-19, 25-16
• Suelen Lima led Bakersfield with 12 kills on the match.
• Boden Liljedahl rallied 8 digs, three assist and one ace.
• Luiza Da Cruz posted 24 assists.

CSUB 0, UC Santa Barbara 3 

• Bakersfield put up a good fight in the Saturday match against the Gauchos: 25-22, 25-18, 25-23
• Senior Pin hitter Druegan Davis lead the Runners with 15 kills.
• Suelen Lima had a strong showing for the ‘Runners with 10 kills, two blocks, and nine digs.

• The Roadrunner wrestling program started the 2025-26 season with a busy week of action, hitting the road for a tournament before coming home to face a ranked opponent. 
• Seventh-year Head Coach Luke Smith enjoyed a number of standout individual performances from his `Runners this week.

CSUB at Menlo Open 

• Cal State Bakersfield open the season with a group of young Roadrunners showing out, led by true freshman Mikah Labuanan, who earned a first-place finish in the 149-pound bracket. 
  • Labuanan, who hails from Wailuku, Hawai'i, went 4-0 on the day, clinching the Menlo Open title with a major decision victory. 
• CSUB also enjoyed Top 4 finishes from four other `Runners: 
  • Saxton Scott, 133, third 
  • Caleb McElroy, 133, fourth 
  • Mikey Folch, 149, fourth 
  • Xander Firm, 149, fourth 

CSUB 3, #26 Purdue 39 

• In CSUB’s first dual of the season, the `Runners won the opening bout before dropping the remaining bouts to a strong Purdue squad. 
  • The Boilermaker lineup featured seven ranked wrestlers. 
• Bakersfield got its lone win in the first bout of the night when Richard Castro-Sandoval kicked off his redshirt senior season with a 2-0 decision over Purdue’s Isaiah Quintero. 
  • Castro-Sandoval is a returning NCAA Qualifier who is expected to be one of Bakersfield’s leaders this season 
• The next bout was nearly a huge upset for Bakersfield’s true freshman RJ Jones. The 133-pounder put up a great fight against Greyson Clark, who is ranked No. 18 in the country, but Jones ultimately fell, 12-10. 
• At 174 pounds, Guillermo Escobedo gave No. 21 Brody Baumann all he could handle before ultimately dropping a 4-2 decision. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield cross country team concluded the 2025 season in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
• CSUB Head Coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth enjoyed a veteran `Runner leading the CSUB pack.

CSUB at Big West Championship 

• The Cal State Bakersfield Cross Country team raced at the Big West Cross Country Championships on Friday, hosted by Hawai’i.
• The Roadrunners toed the line for the 6,000-meter race with the other ten schools in the conference at the Queen Kapi'olani Regional Park.
• Bakersfield native Rain Gomez was the first Roadrunner finisher for the second straight championship meet.
• The senior crossed the finish line in 23:57.5, good for 70th overall.
• Crystal Torrecillas and freshman Ava Leisenfelder placed 85th and 86th in the race.
• Crystal Raya and Valerie Garcia rounded out the top five for the `Runners.
• Bakersfield finished in eleventh place with a total of 354 points.
• The athletes will end their season and shift focus on indoor track and field.
