6 First Place Finishes at FPU, Miller Resets Outdoor Vault Record

FRESNO, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor season with 12 top two finishes at the Fresno Pacific University Invitational on Saturday. The Roadrunners saw Miranda Miller reset the school vault record and had a pair of men's athletes climb all-time lists.

Miller broke the track and field pole vault record twice at FPU Saturday morning clearing 4.11m (13'5.75") in her final attempt. She has led the vault group in four consecutive meets this season.

Jesus Alvarez won the men's high jump. He jumped over the bar at a career-high 6'8" placing him 13th all-time in the event at CSUB.

Curtis Threlkeld bested the 1500m competition on Saturday at the FPU Invitational and now ranks 12th all-time.

Riley Slayton won the 400m hurdles in her first race back with the `Runners this year having missed the 2022 indoor season.

Matthew Garrett took the hammer throw event in his debut with the Roadrunners.

Neyda Martinez earned her first win in the 800m Saturday afternoon rounding out the top finishers for CSUB.

"It was a very good outing," said Director of Track & Field, Cross Country Marcia Mansur-Wentworth, "I'm very pleased with the opening meet."

Next up, the Roadrunners will return home for a couple of weeks of training before their next meet at Long Beach State.
