`Runner Hoopers Enjoy Strong Academic Semester

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield men's basketball team is busy on the court working towards its goal of winning a Big West Conference title, but each of Rod Barnes' Roadrunner student-athletes also have an ultimate goal of graduating with a degree. CSUB continues to produce graduates every year from its men's basketball program and this group of `Runners are well on their way to another batch of degrees after a strong academic showing in Fall 2021.

The `Runners finished the Fall term with their highest Team GPA since 2019 with a collective 2.90. Leading the way in that effort were seven `Runners, each of whom posted a GPA of 3.0 or better during the term with five of those men qualifying for the Dean's List.

Academically a sophomore and a native of Italy, Dalph Panopio put the language barrier behind himself to lead all `Runners in the classroom with a 3.90 GPA in Fall 2021. Junior forward Brian Washington posted a 3.70 GPA in his first term at CSUB while `Runner veteran Grehlon Easter matched the 3.70 in his own coursework.

Super seniors Justin Elder-Davis (3.42) and Justin McCall (3.22) have already earned their degrees from CSUB, but the pair excelled in their postbaccalaureate courses. Senior forward Jack Schoemann continued his string of solid academic performances, equaling Edler-Davis' 3.42 this past semester.

Rounding out Bakersfield's seven student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA or above in Fall 2021 was Cameron Smith. "Beno", as Smith is known among his team, posted a 3.05 and is one of six `Runners on the Athletics Director's Honor Roll.
