Two More `Runner Records Fall on Final Day in Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. – Another pair of CSU Bakersfield records and an NCAA B Cut highlighted the final day of competition at the Big Al Invitational for the Roadrunner swimming and diving teams. Vili Sivec and Mikayla Popham led the way, breaking CSUB records in the 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke, respectively, while Sivec's mark is an early potential qualifying time for the NCAA Championships.

CSUB's Top Women
  • Popham, who hails from Sunshine Coast, Australia, got the day started off hot by resetting CSUB's record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:59.36 in the prelims. She then lowered the mark by three tenths of a second on the way to an eighth-place finish in the evening finals.
  • Hansen on a talented group of `Runner women: "Chelaine, Danielle, Lorena, Danica and Nicole all scored us big points today on the women's side. Holly and Jessica continued to make big drops!"
  • Chelaine Van der Westhuizen placed fifth overall in the 200 breaststroke, posting a CSUB Top 5 all-time mark of 2:14.84.
  • Lorena Jerebic also put her name in another CSUB Top 5 list, going 2:02.81 in the 200 butterfly finals.
  • Danielle Albright placed eighth overall in the 200 breast (2:18.15 prelims time).
  • Danica Aguilar finished 15th in the 200 fly (2:06.79 finals time).
  • Nicole Horton placed 14th in the 100 free (51.30 prelims time).
  • Holly DiSimone clocked a 51.42 in the 100 free finals.
  • Jessica Franco finished the 200 back finals in 2:04.02.
CSUB's Top Men
  • Sivec, a freshman from Croatia, broke the Bakersfield men's 200 fly record in the morning prelims. His time of 1:44.78 made him the top seed in the finals (where he placed third overall) and was an NCAA B Cut time.
  • Hansen on his top men's performers: "Vili, Arthur, Jacob, and Antonio were on their A game today. Tim, Yigit and Adrian swam personal best times and are continuing to get faster."
  • Sivec also posted the second-fastest 100 free time in CSUB history (44.12) while leading off the 400 free relay.
  • Antonio Milin posted his name in the CSUB Top 5 in the 200 breast with a finals time of 1:59.56.
  • Arthur Schneider scored points in the 1650 free, swimming his first collegiate mile in 15:58.11.
  • Jacob Folsom was right behind Schneider in the mile with a time of 16:01.35.
  • Yigit Saglam posted a 45.41 in the 100 free prelims while Timothy Engel was right behind at 45.87.
  • Adrian Paseta went 1:49.73 in the 200 fly finals.
