Smith Breaks 3-Meter Record, `Runners Swim Strong in Stockton

BAKERSFIELD/Stockton, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield swim & dive teams continued the 2026-27 season with a pair of meets, both at home and on the road. The Roadrunner divers showed out in Bakersfield while CSUB's swimmers tackled a strong field at the PAC Invite hosted by University of the Pacific.

The Cal State Bakersfield divers hosted CMS at the Hillman Aquatic Center. Sophomore Alma Smith showed out, winning both diving events convincingly. Smith won the 1-meter board by 40 points with a score of 315.75. He then went on to post a new CSUB record on the 3-meter springboard with a six-dive score of 362.75. Both marks qualify Smith for the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships, the regional championships that lead into Nationals.

Izzy Fay placed third on the 3-meter with a personal best score of 229.15 while taking second on the 1-meter. Cody Morgan posted a pair of personal bests (233.00 1M, 249.25 3M).

Men's Swim at PAC Invite

Bakersfield's men looked to a trio of underclassmen distance swimmers to lead the way:
  • Sophomore Karsten Eichler won the 1650 free with a standout time for this part of the season (15:42.88). He also placed second in the 500 Free (4:42.86).
  • Freshman Aiden Moran placed fifth in the 1650 free (16:43.74).
  • Sophomore Tanner Sheffert took fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:47.52.

Women's Swim at PAC Invite

The `Runner women showed depth and speed this weekend.
  • Senior Josiane Hill won the 100 back (55.05) and placed second in the 100 fly (55.33) and 200 back (2:02.46).
  • Sophomore Mayu Yager placed second in the 500 free (5:03.61), third in the 400 IM (4:32.00), and fourth in the mile (17:19.24).
  • Bakersfield native and freshman Sophia Munoz-Rodriguez tallied a third-place finish in the 100 IM (59.22).
  • Junior Brianna Griffiths took fourth in the 200 breast (2:24.49).
  • Sophomore Emmy Loftus placed firth in the 500 free (5:13.52).
  • Freshman Parker Marvin took fifth in the 200 IM (2:12.50).
  • The `Runner women placed second in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay before posting a third-place finish in the 800 free relay.
