D’Arcy Sets School Record in Win Over Pepperdine

Bakersfield, Calif. – Autumn D'Arcy won three individual races and set a new CSU Bakersfield Division I era record for career wins with 62, as the Roadrunner women raced past visiting Pepperdine 156-108 on Saturday afternoon at the John S. Hillman Aquatic Center. Bakersfield won 13 of 14 individual races to cruise past the Waves and improve to 3-1 on the season in dual meet competition.
 
"Autumn is the story today, but it was great to get wins up and down our women's line-up," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "We've been training hard, have had a number of dual meets canceled and faced tough conditions today, but we still put up some fast times and that's encouraging."
 
D'Arcy posted victories in the 100 Backstroke (57.41), the 50 Freestyle (23.62) and the 100 Butterfly (55.75) giving her 16 wins this season. Her first-place finish in the 50 Free was the 61st of her Bakersfield career and broke Paola Hernandez' long-standing Division I era record of 60 victories.
 
D'Arcy accomplished the feat in less than three full seasons as a `Runner.
 
While D'Arcy won career races 60, 61 and 62, underclassman Hannah Marsh and Jessica Franco won for the first times in their CSUB careers.
 
Marsh swam a 10:53.38 to capture a first-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle, while Franco was first to the wall in the 500 Freestyle (5:10.02).
 
Mikayla Popham (200 Free, 200 Back), Danielle Albright (100 Breast, 200 Breast), Lorena Jerebic (100 Free, 200 Fly) each won a pair of swimming events. Senior Lauren Carson won both diving events with identical scores of 214.70.
 
Fresno Pacific was forced to withdraw from today's competition due to COVID health and safety protocols within their program, turning the women's meet into a head-to-head dual between CSUB and Pepperdine and forcing the Roadrunner men to compete in a series of exhibition swims.
 
Discussions to reschedule a dual with FPU for next Friday, Jan. 21 are ongoing.  
 
The Roadrunners celebrated Senior Day ahead of today's event, honoring the careers of a decorated Bakersfield senior class that includes Carson, D'Arcy, Courtney Linton, Tabea Mose and Ariane Skeggs on the women's side and CSUB men Julio Alcantar, Ryan Brimer, Alex Dragan, Loren Gillilan, Antonio Milin, Linus Richter and Kris Rogic.

"The 2020 season was cut short, the 2021 season was canceled and we've continued to deal with adversity out of our control in 2022," noted Hansen. "The response from our senior class has been incredible. They've shown determination, commitment, accountability and compassion to the sport and to each other. They have been our team leaders for a long time now and there is no way we could have pushed through the last few seasons without their example or the tone they've set for our program."
