Bakersfield Product Shia Clayton Signs with CSUB

Bakersfield, Calif. – Shia Clayton, a product of Bakersfield's Foothill High School and the Central California Albion, has inked his National Letter of Intent with CSU Bakersfield Men's Soccer. Head Coach Richie Grant announced the signing on Wednesday, Nov. 10, the first day of the NLI signing period.

"Shia is a special person and a top player," Grant explained. "We are delighted he is choosing to stay in Bakersfield and play for his local university. He's a highly competitive player with strong technical qualities and offers so much to our program as we look to compete at the top of the Big West Conference."

Clayton played the past two seasons for Foothill for coach Tyrel Rose, leading the Trojans to a 34-3-2 overall record and a pair of Southeast Yosemite League Championships. In 34 games played, the central midfielder has scored 13 goals and added 11 assists for 37 total points.

In 2019, Clayton was named First-Team All-SEYL, scoring eight times and dishing out five assists while helping FHS to a 24-1-2 overall record.

At the club level, Clayton currently represents Central California Albion '04 in the Elite Academy League.

"So much credit goes to Troy Lynch and the coaches at Albion Soccer Club for their development of Shia," Grant added. "They're a credit to our local soccer community and we are pleased and appreciative that their program continues to produce players and people who make our program better."

A 5-8, 160 lb midfielder, Clayton has also represented Southern California at the Olympic Development level.

The son of Jessica Villatoro, he will graduate from Foothill High School in the spring of 2022 and plans to major in business at CSUB.

He'll join a Roadrunner soccer program that finished fourth overall and hosted a Big West Quarterfinal matchup, despite being picked to finish its first season in the league dead last.
